Meet the Hag: Corinne

Hag: Corinne Luz

Location: Salem, MA

What will you be bringing to H.A.G.?
Caffeine addiction, timetables, research and words, arts of all sorts, and hag wrangling…which really is a sort of art.

With which horror villain do you feel the strongest connection? Princess from The Loved Ones. But marriage has calmed me down.

Which horror subgenre is your favorite?
I’m more interested in horror films that force me to question the reality of what I am seeing. Is our narrator reliable? Am I engaging the story from the perspective of delusion or dream logic? If the film has an (un)healthy dose of paranoia-derived tension, I’m on board. Bonus points if the visuals are sumptuous.

Is there a horror icon you want to meet? Jessica Harper! Among other age-inappropriate films, my mom let me watch The Phantom of the Paradise when I were so young I can’t remember the first time I saw it. I fell in love with her ingenue look and grace, the fuck you attitude, and fierce flounce. This film eventually led to the teenage-me discovery of Suspiria (1977). So, yes, the answer is: Jessica Harper.

What scares you?
Bureaucracy. It will kill us all.

What movie/TV show/book/etc went too far for you? Of all things, the only film to make me physically gag was a kissing scene in the beginning of Adam Green’s 2017 Victor Crowley  There was much thick, unnecessary mucus. *shudder*

What is your most anticipated horror movie? 2019 is looking like another great year for horror with It: Chapter 2, The Lighthouse, 3 From Hell, and Pet Sematary among those films being released. But the one movie I’m most looking forward to seeing is Jordan Peele’s Us, and, after the genius of Get Out, can you blame me?

This Hag Recommends:

Drink: Coffee.
Book: I have quite a few I’d love to talk about here, but for brevity: We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson (1962) and A Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay. Read them in that order, with no other book in between. You’re welcome.
TV Show: Past shows: Tales from the Crypt (1989 – 1996) and Friday the 13th: The Series (1987 – 1990). Still in production, as of this writing: Channel Zero.
Movie: Darling.
Video Game: Until Dawn. This 2014 survival horror/adventure PS4 game was co-written by independent filmmaker Larry Fessenden (Glass Eye Pix) and stars Hayden Panettiere and Mali Ramik. Great replay value.
Make-Up: Almost anything from Lush or Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab. Also, the older I get, the more I appreciate the miracle of good moisturizers. My everyday go-to lotions are the CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotions AM and PM.
